California Mondioring Jump Page

Jumps are worth 55 points at Level 3. In addition to this, they are great conditioning for your dog. Any serious student of Mondioring should have their own jumps or access to jumps to use. I have seen many comments from people on Mondio lists inquiring about how to build jumps. Just follow the specs from the rules and make sure that they are sturdy and safe. Most judges will accept your jumps if they are to specs and safe. My first hurdle was a bastardized agility hurdle that I threw a towel over and used pvc pipe (like fR) to make the two parts. Now, I have a metal frame which is sturdy and to specs. I have added some new pics and commentary to encourage others to "go for it!"

Ysha doing 2.35 meters

Below, training the long jump in Europe- note metal handles that serve to maintain the height and toggle the "key" aka "wipe" or "toggle Board. The frame is about halfway and buckets are used to give height

Another method of teaching the longjump, using increased height to the "wipe" and a barrier to keep dog from "stepping through". The "fishing pole method" of showing the tug is not as desirable as having a helper, but when training alone, you must find solutions to make your program work. The following picture is the same dog doing about 20 cm over the 4 meter max

If you follow the dog's angle, you can see how she will land well past the key

Teaching the hurdle with minimum height to Reno's Matt Koval and his Security Dog "Max" at May 2002 Sagarra Seminar

Ysha and I went to Reno on June 7 & 8 to train Mondioring with Matt and RPD Officer Rich Schneider and I am happy to report that Max is now doing the max on the hurdle and learning and enjoying leg bites!!! Also, Rich is starting one of his very sweet Pit Bull's "Samson" in Mondioring also.

BTW, Matt is the lucky <hee hee> owner of the pick female out of Kathy O'Brien's "Xosa" and "Bomber" born June 2002.

The long jumps "wipe" or toggle board with a bucket under to add height to dog's jump

The "wipe" from an underside veiw. Note metal plates screwed to frame bottom to make board toggle back to position

The "wipe" propped up with bucket and approximately half of the frame is used to teach to longjump.

Also, a pvc pipe or board can be held at the bottom of jump by helper/s

BTW ANN, that's an accessory on the ground - lower middle ;)

Success on the maximum!
